  • Palm Islands

by Akash Khatri TRAVEL Palm Islands by Akash Khatri 1 October 2020 Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement One of the country’s most prominent project ever, Dubai’s palm Islands, developed by Nakheel, are the eighth wonder of the world! These man made islands are designed in a palm tree shape and thus got their name from it. The distinctiveness and interesting history behind it grabs the tourist attraction here. One of the most visited destination in Dubai has been admired since long. There are three islands that altogether makes Palm Island, including Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali, Palm Deira. Deira is the largest one. Palm Jumeirah It is the only one open to visitors and is also famous for the grand looking hotel, Burj Al Arab. There are residential properties inside Jumeirah too where celebrities or richer people reside in. It was built in the early 21st century and first residents in the buildings arrived in 2007. In the second decade 10,000 people were residing in Jumeirah. It was financed from Dubai’s substantial income from petroleum. Palm Jebel Ali It was the most significant among the three islands when built. It was so large that more than 250,000 people were expected to live there. But it’s an abandoned island as of now because of the deficit economic situation in Dubai. Nakheel has confirmed that it won’t be put to a stop. It’ll continue at some point of time for sure. Palm Deira Deira is the largest of all the islands with an area greater than Paris! It’s been under construction due to the same reason mentioned. When it’ll be completed, The island will consist of residential property, marinas, shopping malls, sports facilities, clubs, and hospitality offerings. It’s a spectacular with all the luxury and unrealistic units. The idea of building these islands was to fascinate more tourists. That’s why it has everything that a visitor looks for. World-class hotels, entertainment centres, spas and health centres, marinas, water parks, residential villas, shopping malls, cinema multiplexes, diving sites and what not. Beach lovers can’t resist visiting here. People can see the palm shape up close and it looks surreal. One look at it’s structure, which is covered with beachfront hotels from major brands like Atlantis, St. Regis, Sofitel, Langham, W, and Waldorf-Astoria makes it understandable why Dubai is the fourth-most visited place in the world. This engineering project is just as imaginable as it sounds. The project of Palm Jumeirah cost $12 billion which today is the native to 1,500 beachfront mansions with a 6,000 apartments on its trunk. Also 12,000 palm trees were planted in there. These amazing facts about the place makes it more appealing, enchanting and worthwhile. #holidaydestination #Dubai #trip #wanderlust #beaches #travelling #beautifulplaces #islands SEARCH The Fashion Capitals Of Asia: Exploring Style Beyond Borders TRAVEL Unveiling Delights Of Hotel Palazzo Versace Gem Of Dubai TRAVEL 7 Abandoned Cities In India And Abroad That Are Too Beautiful To Be Forgotten TRAVEL airBaltic Makes Global Debut On World’s Safest Airlines List TRAVEL Revolutionizing Air Travel: Qatar Airways Introduces AI-Powered Booking With Sama TRAVEL POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Deepshika Reddy AVASA Hyderabad: Redefining Contemporary Luxury In The Heart Of The City 17 August 2026 TRAVEL By Sakshi Shah Where Stillness Finds You: Inside Lakeside Boheme Inn 14 April 2026 TRAVEL By Shriniwas Kodape The Peninsula Bangkok: Grace Beside The Chao Phraya 4 October 2025 TRAVEL By Shriniwas Kodape 64 Floors Up: Lebua At State Tower Perspective 4 October 2025 TRAVEL RELATED POSTS Advertisement

  • Meet Ishmeet Kaur, The Winner of Mrs. India World 2024

Meet Ishmeet Kaur, The Winner of Mrs. India World 2024 By Sakshi Batra Meet Ishmeet Kaur, The Winner of Mrs. India World 2024 17 December 2024 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Journey of Ishmeet Kaur Ishmeet Kaur - Mrs. India World 2024, For me it was not only a journey of determination, passion and self-belief but also a heart full of gratitude. From a childhood rooted in love and support to challenging societal norms, my journey to becoming Mrs. India World goes beyond the crown. It’s a celebration of inner strength, resilience, and the belief that true beauty comes from within. “I’m not just taking away cherished memories with my sister queens, but also the title that has shaped my journey”. “These 7 days have been more than just an experience, they have been a journey of growth, friendship and empowerment, rather than a competition”. "The lessons learned, the bonds formed, and the unforgettable moments will forever remain with me, serving as a constant reminder of the strength and beauty we all hold within." Source of Inspiration When asked about my biggest source of support, “I credit my mother as my guiding light from being my constant support through thick and thin whenever I felt like giving up, she became my strength and reminded me to keep chasing my dreams until I achieve them”. With her unwavering support, I am who I am today. Her guidance helped me overcome every hurdle that came my way. The crown I wear is not merely a symbol of victory—it embodies my hard work, passion, and self-belief. I didn’t just chase my dreams, I lived them. On the other hand, I often see parents not supporting their child's career choices. To them, my advice is simple: “Never give up on your dreams”. Stay true to your passion and trust your journey. If you remain authentic to yourself and your aspirations, then sky’s the limit. "If you follow your heart with determination, success will undoubtedly find its way to you." The best part of my journey has been the unwavering support of not just my mother, but my entire family and my partner, who stood as my pillars of strength in achieving my dreams. Their only advice to me was simple yet profound: stay true to who you are, and always remain humble and grounded with your fellow contestants. “They mentioned that true beauty comes within and that should reflect through my actions”. The Changing Phase of Pageantry I believe that the world has been undergoing a shift, moving away from the traditional beliefs and stereotypical norms, the days are gone when beauty pageants were just about perfect figures and dazzling smiles but in today’s scenario women with different body shapes and sizes are respected and are being welcomed “Today, the pageants celebrate authenticity and individuality” and the focus has also expanded to inner beauty, confidence, intelligence & social awareness rather than just physical appearance. These days “pageants are embracing diversity in terms of ethnicities, backgrounds, age, sexuality and gender identity”. Pageants now place more emphasis on contestants' intelligence, social awareness and community involvement. Winners are often expected to be role models and advocates for social causes”. This shift reflects a broader, more inclusive vision of beauty. However, the path to success is never easy. “Indian women face many societal restrictions, making it hard to build a career, they must navigate countless obstacles and negotiate at every step to overcome the challenges in their path”. But by participating in Mrs. India World, I feel I have broken stereotypes and shown that no dream is impossible, regardless of marital status. Life Lessons Among the many rounds in the pageant, “My favourite was the personal interview round”. It was a truly special moment that I will cherish for a lifetime, as it gave me the opportunity to connect with each judge one-on-one. “Their humility and inspiring guidance left a lasting impression on me”. Power of confidence & Self-belief What sets me apart from others is not beauty with brains, it was my bolstering confidence, determination and self-belief that got me here and stood me out from everyone else. “I would suggest everyone to follow their heart and not give heat to negative perspectives”. I can't deny that there were moments when I wanted to take a break, do nothing, and just relax. But then I had a self-realisation “I was fortunate enough to be selected among so many talented and brilliant women”. It was a golden opportunity that I couldn’t afford to miss, especially with my dreams so close to being realised. This deep realisation pushed me to stay focused and true to my passion. “It reignited the fire in me to work hard and pursue my dreams with full dedication and honesty”. Favourite Cuisine Even the strict dieters have cravings and for me, it’s Chinese food. "If I had to choose a cheat meal, it would definitely be my favourite Chinese dishes - I just can’t resist them!" Celebrating Talent & Creativity I would be incredibly proud to judge the pageant, and if given the opportunity to create my own round, “I would choose a talent round where all participants could showcase their unique abilities”. Whether it’s singing, dancing, poetry, drama, or any other talent, this round would offer each contestant the chance to express their creativity and passion. “I believe it would provide them with an opportunity to truly shine in something they love, creating a beautiful, personal, and inspiring experience." Redefining Success Ishmeet’s journey is a powerful reminder that success is not just about achievements, but about breaking barriers and staying true to oneself. "Dreams take effort, and sometimes they need a push," but the beauty of the journey lies in overcoming challenges and letting your inner light shine. Her story teaches us that beauty is not just about appearances; it’s about strength, resilience, and the courage to dream big. Ishmeet is living proof that with determination and belief, no dream is ever too far out of reach. • Glass Slippers And Glittery Masks!

Glass Slippers And Glittery Masks! LIFESTYLE Glass Slippers And Glittery Masks! by Aparajita Jaiswal 27 July 2020 Advertisement Don’t get too comfortable girls! You never know when the other shoe falls off too. Well when Alfred Tennyson said, “‘It is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all,” I strongly disagree. Sometimes the best charmers are the ones needed to be kept on lock down. Men would say anything to get the girl. Beware of the dogs! Be with a guy that ruins your lipstick not your mascara! Although, as challenging as atoning can be, the rewards make it worth the time, but most people find it difficult to admit that there was fault to begin with and find it easier to pretend it never happened or that it’s not going to be a bother at all. But the problem with hiding your sins is that they always come back to haunt you. All masks eventually have to come off and with them so do the gloves. We all wear different masks for different reasons. Some masks we put on because it’s truly who we want to be while some masks we wear because we hope to stay hidden. Some we wear because we cannot bear to see what’s underneath or because it is what someone else wants us to be. But that’s the problem with wearing them is that they can be ripped off at any moment. Every journey is fraud with twists and turns. The ultimate challenge is to stay the course, move on from the past and forge your path into the future. Because one false move can spell disaster. #tisbettertohavelovedandlostthantoneverhavelovedatall #AlfredTennyson #MasksGirlUltimatechallengeAlfredTennysonsaid SEARCH Ankita Malik: Empowering Change And Embracing Authenticity LIFESTYLE Juggling Two Worlds: The Inspiring Journey Of Kritika Goel LIFESTYLE Juggling Law And Fashion: The Inspirational Journey Of Riddhi Nahata, A Multifaceted Influencer LIFESTYLE Nikita Pawar: From Fashion Design To Digital Stardom LIFESTYLE Join Shruti Yogi On Her Enchanting Journey From Kumkum Bhagya To Wanderlust Saga LIFESTYLE POPULAR POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement By Sakshi Shah Jorja Smith Has A New Album, And Apparently Sitting Still Is No Longer An Option 18 September 2026 LIFESTYLE By Sakshi Shah Bonobo And Arooj Aftab's Fire On The Water Is The Kind Of Collaboration You Can't Plan 5 August 2026 LIFESTYLE By Sakshi Shah Tsumyoki Is Building A World Of His Own 30 July 2026 LIFESTYLE By Sakshi Shah Ankur Tewari And The Sound Of A Changing India 23 July 2026 LIFESTYLE RELATED POSTS Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement

  • Francesca Bellettini Ushers In Gucci’s New Dawn

Francesca Bellettini Ushers In Gucci’s New Dawn By Sakshi Shah Francesca Bellettini Ushers In Gucci’s New Dawn 19 September 2025 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement The September sun had barely risen over Florence when whispers began to ripple through the industry: Francesca Bellettini would be the new President and Chief Executive Officer of Gucci . It felt less like an announcement and more like the unveiling of a destiny, a return written years ago but revealed only now. Gucci, a house that has always blurred the line between heritage and revolution, had found its new storyteller, a woman whose path was carved not through sketches and fabrics, but through strategy, vision, and the quiet assurance of someone who knows how to turn possibility into permanence. Her story does not begin with fashion’s glittering runways but in London’s financial heart, where young Bellettini pored over numbers, forecasts, and balance sheets. It was a world of hard lines and clear logic, yet within it she discovered her own artistry: the ability to read hidden rhythms in the data, to sense opportunity where others saw risk. That discipline would later become her secret strength in an industry that thrives on the tension between dreams and reality. From Prada to Helmut Lang, her path wound steadily into the world of luxury, and in 2003 she arrived at Gucci, a young strategist entrusted with shaping merchandising and long-term vision. The arc of her career is almost cinematic. From Gucci to Bottega Veneta, and then to Saint Laurent, where she orchestrated one of the most remarkable transformations in modern fashion, Bellettini proved that leadership is not about controlling creativity but about framing it so it shines brighter. At Saint Laurent , revenues soared, yet the house never lost its edge, proof of her ability to nurture artistry while anchoring it in business clarity. There was nothing flamboyant about her leadership style. Instead, colleagues described her as precise, observant, and deeply human. She was the kind of leader who listened intently, who allowed creative visionaries the space to dream, while building frameworks that ensured those dreams could live beyond the runway. At Saint Laurent, this delicate alchemy between imagination and execution became her signature, and it is this same touch that now makes her return to Gucci feel almost poetic. Gucci is more than a fashion brand; it is a cultural mirror, reflecting desires, rebellions, and ideals of every era it passes through. From Tom Ford’s provocative sensuality to Alessandro Michele’s kaleidoscopic maximalism, Gucci has never stood still. Each reinvention became not just a collection but a zeitgeist, a movement. Yet in 2025, with consumers hungering for authenticity, sustainability, and meaning beyond logos, Gucci must find its new rhythm. Bellettini steps into this moment not as a disruptor crashing through the door, but as a custodian with vision, someone who knows how to protect legacy while charting new frontiers. Her words upon stepping into the role carried both reverence and ambition: an honor to guide one of the world’s most iconic houses, excitement to collaborate with Kering CEO Luca de Meo, and admiration for Demna’s fearless creativity. The balance of humility and resolve in her voice reflects a philosophy she has carried throughout her career that leadership is not domination but stewardship, a responsibility to nurture what already exists while daring to create what does not. This partnership with Demna is one the industry watches with intrigue. His avant-garde boldness has redefined Balenciaga, and now, under Bellettini’s guidance, his daring will find a new canvas at Gucci. The dialogue between his creativity and her clarity has the potential to redraw the contours of luxury. It is not about taming vision but grounding it, ensuring it resonates with a global audience while remaining undeniably Gucci. What makes this chapter compelling is that Bellettini does not see luxury as mere commerce. For her, it is culture, intimacy, and resonance. It is the way a bag becomes an heirloom, the way a show lingers in memory long after the lights dim. Her leadership suggests Gucci’s future will not simply be measured in profit margins but in its ability to spark wonder, to create belonging, and to shape moments that feel timeless. The appointment is both the culmination and beginning. A woman who once walked the corridors of Gucci as a strategist now returns as its leader, carrying decades of wisdom and a reputation forged in resilience. Gucci’s story has always been about transformation, about daring to reinvent itself while never losing sight of its soul. Under Francesca Bellettini, that story enters a new act, one that promises elegance without complacency, daring without dissonance. The lights are on, the stage is set, and history waits to be written. Gucci has chosen its narrator, and the world is ready to listen. • Journeying Through Fashion And Self - Expression With Paranosh Irani

Journeying Through Fashion And Self - Expression With Paranosh Irani by Akshra Khandelwal Journeying Through Fashion And Self - Expression With Paranosh Irani 27 August 2023 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement "Fashion is a variable, while style is a constant. Style expresses who I am in my way!" - These words resonate deeply with the vibrant soul that is Paranosh Irani. From the colourful realms of Instagram to the poised corridors of the fashion world, Paranosh has carved a niche uniquely hers. In an exclusive interview with our magazine, she unveils her journey, her inspirations, and the philosophy that drives her. With a radiant smile that mirrors her effervescent personality, Paranosh Irani delves into her roots, giving us a glimpse of her evolution as a digital content creator and social media influencer. "Who is Paranosh Irani?" she muses as if teasing us to embark on a journey of discovery. A journey began on Instagram, where she found her voice through a quirky-edgy take on Fashion, offering honest reviews and invaluable tips on skincare and makeup. Her audience is not just followers; they are comrades, fellow Unicorn enthusiasts who understand her affinity for the mythical creature that represents her spirit – unique, magical, and full of dreams. The sparkle in her eyes intensifies as she shares her thoughts on Fashion and style. "Fashion is a variable, while style is a constant," she asserts. To her, style is the canvas on which she paints her individuality. It's not about following trends but creating a tapestry of self-expression. A style icon in her own right, Paranosh draws inspiration from Iris Apfel, a nonagenarian fashion maven. The connection between the two might not be obvious at first glance, but the audacity to be oneself, no matter the age, forms the bridge between their worlds. As she traces her journey, it's evident that the path wasn't always bedecked with confidence and self-assuredness. "Since childhood, I always felt I had an 'out-of-the-box' factor to give back to the industry," she confesses. Yet, her path meandered, and she grappled with self-esteem issues. Only later, after enrolling in an image consulting course, her vision cleared. The world of Fashion and self-expression, which had seemed distant, became an open field of opportunities. "It brought back my love for fashion," she reminisces, a reminder that sometimes our passions only need a gentle nudge to return. The tale takes a twist as we learn of her dalliance with setting up an online platform for local boutiques, a project that remained in the shadows. It's a testament to the fact that not every venture blooms into the spotlight, but each contributes to the growth of the creative spirit. Against the backdrop of these endeavours, the idea of fashion blogging simmered, waiting for the right moment to take centre stage. Paranosh Irani took her rightful place in the digital realm like a phoenix rising from the ashes. The days of indecision were behind her, replaced by a conviction to chase her dreams relentlessly. "When people around me work 3-4 jobs, why can't I manage two?" She questions a statement that encapsulates her relentless determination. With Instagram as her launchpad, she embarked on a blogging journey, eventually expanding her presence to a WordPress blog account. Today, her digital footprint is a testament to her creative prowess. She has crafted a space uniquely hers with content that reflects her quirky-edgy perspective on Fashion, insightful reviews, skincare tips, and lifestyle musings. But she didn't stop there. Winner of the Femina Mrs Stylista Pageant 2018, she broke her barriers and shattered the glass ceiling. "This was the first time I had ever won something beauty-fashion related," she chuckles, her younger self amazed by the woman she's become. The tale would only be complete by acknowledging her media collaborations. Her styling videos have graced the digital pages of My Good Times, while her story has been told through the ink of Eatmy News, Creme Magazine, Making HERstory Again, and the airwaves of Radio One, Pune. A highlight that gleams with pride is her participation in the Born on Instagram program by Instagram itself, a validation of her influence and creativity. Beyond the digital realm, Paranosh has ventured into entrepreneurship. Her online business, www.theaccessorys.com , and her preloved fashion endeavour, ReHome ReLove, symbolise her enterprising spirit. They are also a reminder that her journey is as much about creating pathways for others as it is about personal growth. As the conversation draws closer, her dreams emerge on the horizon. An ambassador on a global stage for fashion week, representing her unique style to the world – that's the crescendo she envisions. Yet, amidst the aspirations, her message remains grounded and potent. "Don't give up; perceive, push your boundaries and carve your niche because no one is like you!" Paranosh Irani is more than an influencer; she's a storyteller, a dreamer, and a warrior of self-expression. Her journey reminds us that pursuing passion is not a linear path but a tapestry of experiences woven with threads of resilience, audacity, and unyielding belief. As we bid farewell to this effervescent creator, we are left with the anticipation of the many chapters she's yet to pen, the stories she's yet to tell, and the fashion she’s yet to conquer. • Spring Of Glitz & Glam

Spring Of Glitz & Glam by Naisargi Devdher Spring Of Glitz & Glam 27 August 2022 COVER STORIES Advertisement In the midst of monsoon receiving a cup of hot tea is like reviving life on every corner of your stick nerves. Well, that’s exactly what Soniya Bansal seems to be presently grooving warmer than the cosy cover of your winter bed. From candidly being vocal about late teens and being surrounded by artists to her FASHION CUTS , it seems to be welcoming a new season of her in this article !!! From getting termed as an outsider to being recognised as a ‘Pageant’ the journey is filled with boundaries that need to be crossed over, these takes her through variety of experiences. “Experiences are not just to be categorized as really exuberating or bitter to face. I don’t actually take all of it very personally overloading it on my bosom, as it depends on how audience perceives a woman’s aura and character to be. Anyways, it’s now that I fathom the truth in various manners. Being a fresher, the experiences, however, were horridly cold as only response to inquiries made was meeting up people from various groups on being suggested to running doors for work. That’s the major difference today when I have work no one actually suggests meeting up rather they just walk up to my door with work in hand!” From engaging in moves to modelling for path breaking magazines and finally grooving the media for her very particular sense of fashion, she has blazed all the roles. Being a woman there are several words said directly or non-verbal language indicated to showcase certain level of discrimination, all of which are setbacks for an artist and that woman in particular. To which she simply smirked and nodded, continuing to express, “Being completely honest not just being a woman but a self-born star in this industries, I have faced several such questions and allegations that made me lose self-esteem and majorly I wanted to quit the industry. It was then when I realised that whatever field it be, the domination of pre-existing groups is extremely common. Then why should I digress from a field that I am already excelling in because certain mass number that doesn’t want to alter their perceptions! So I decide to move on with it.” Laughing over all of the jokes she gracefully said, “Knowledge is the key to every action of your life. Thus education is must.” In continuation she added, “I perused Master of Arts in Psychology, giving me liberty to understand people around observing artists around simply driving the motivating force within to act and become a model. There were no definite plans; it was just that I finally found what I am born for!!” The firm belief that she has in evolution of ideas from childhood to adulthood simplifies life when she exclaims, “It’s not necessary that all that we aspire to become as a child falls in our way like flowers in the path of Buddha! Those aspirations are going to change and we should welcome all our might because we do it for our personal profits!!!” Finding this thought queer and willing to converse about the numerous shifts it always wonderful to exaggerate the way she simply juggles between work life and personal life. To comment on which she put across the thought, “When I am active with my closed ones, I have the ability to survive a sinking ship. If one isn’t active in her personal life then how will she be active in her professional life? That’s the basic necessity to kick-off a career in an industry like ours. If one doesn’t have brain power then the other aspects just seem foggier than snow ranged mountains leading to vision and thoughts of self that aren’t visible clearly to people, they start despising you completely ending up in a cycle of regrets!” Mentioning about family, the society at large agrees that, nepotism to say has a magnanimous role in the industry. Soniya on the other hand, stands staunch in the industry today, neither has she had any Godfathers in the industry nor does she have any family member reaching the industry. In these circumstances in her accordance, there is always a need to have someone surrounding a fresher to support. The need arises from the past events of her life. She never had anyone to guide her way through to what acts to perform or work to look for, she had no option other than to work however talking about this day she knows the alternatives with all ends due to the life events, mistakes as well the success that she has achieved. Thus reinforcing, “The industry of films and theatre is an extremely difficult one to survive in!” However, only a fighter can survive through when one keeps struggling even when she has projects in hand because the fate can never be trusted, she might end up with zero projects one morning unknown of where to begin from or sometimes just clueless of audience’s approval of the work performed. The audience, however is a judge to everything, they also are variable deciders of schemas of body images that an industry portrays. Soniya, a fitness enthusiast elaborated on complete essence of work outs. “Due to work loads and several shifts, I do skip gyms for a day or certainly for a week if nothing progresses well, however, the moment I resume the sessions of muscle enhancers, I assure myself of stretching my limits to the farthest extent possible to cover up what I missed out on. This is also what makes me mentally fit as I am not worried about my health or overcoming injuries in general. As they say ‘A FIT BODY TRACES A FIT MIND’!! However, there is no assumed connection of body image and acting skills. For me at least, any person can act without having to worry about people body shaming him. That’s exactly what makes differences in tackling the negative outburst of audience. I believe in tackling such negative outbursts on meeting the critic rather than just a distinct criticiser who I probably would never even meet because that man sitting in some random corner of another city has no clue regarding my life. Particularly that is why for me, fashion is something that is classic and unique to me but also at the same time comfortable for me rather than revealing attire wore to impress the audience largely.” The simplicity with which she spoke about all of it is very similar to the simplicity with which she enacts a character. These characters have different underlying psyche, to acquire a role of those, she never utilises any substance that might justify the character however impact her negatively. Thus for her all roes hold equal importance and never does she take back the role with her. This congruence of her with the work life makes the reader flabbergast over so much about her choices and inspirations. “For me one actor I admire the most and always will is Shah Rukh Khan .” One might imagine what she carries along since childhood if she admires the legend Badshah since 90s’. No eye tear can be as magical as her innocent and honest words when she narrates, “I remember my dad explain me ‘BE WHOEVER YOU WISH TO, BUT NEVER LIE OR HURT ANYONE IN THE PROCESS OF BECOMING WHOEVER!!” Being humane none can resist but ask her to inspire youth being a role model not only because of her work and performances but also because of her intellect and temperament. “You know the youth needs to understand that Deepika Padukone has done critically acclaimed films to reach a state of worthiness and so has Ranveer Singh . He goes bare clothes for a shoot doesn’t actually mean the follower too should for gaining fame. That’s not how it works. Walk and act according to the situation. That makes them what they are. It will be the same for you too!” “EVEN DISNEY CAN’T RESIST THE CHARM OF FLOWER. Narrating Stories With Fabric: Rick Roy’s Masterful Ability To Influence An Era Of Fashion by Akshay T S Narrating Stories With Fabric: Rick Roy’s Masterful Ability To Influence An Era Of Fashion 7 July 2023 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement With his creative flair and impeccable attention to detail, the costume designer Rick Roy brings characters to life through the power of wardrobe. Steeped in a world of imagination and boundless creativity, the costume designer is a masterful storyteller in his own right. He has a unique ability of translating the essence of a character into visual form, crafting costumes that not only enhance the narrative but also become an integral part of the storytelling process. Each stitch, fabric choice, and accessory speak volumes, reflects the nuances of personality, era, and emotion. He is a master collaborator, working closely with directors, actors, and production teams to bring their collective vision to life. He has worked with a variety of Bollywood films where his costume designing ability has melded his own artistic instincts with the broader creative vision of the production. When asked about why he chose costume designing as a career, he inferred that he was always an artistic person with an eye for aesthetics and colors. He had never shown much interest in traditional studies and he was glad to have found the support of his parents since they were also pretty much inclined towards art. He further talks about what usually goes on inside his mind, revealing that insanity paves way to the creation of art. His head is usually brimming with multitudes of ideas and he finds it hard to fixate on one specific idea for a design. As a costume designer, he loves creating different looks for different characters in a variety of films and that way he is able to channel these ideas into multiple areas. Diving into the topic of fashion critiques with the question of which Indian fashion critique, in his opinion, does their job well, he takes a moment before revealing his answer. He believes that there is a lot of fashion know-how that goes behind fashion critiquing and it serves more than just the purpose of entertainment. There is more to fashion critiquing than just criticization and he is slowly learning to master it on his own. So, there is no specific fashion critique that comes to his mind yet. When asked about who his favourite fashion designer is, he immediately expresses his admiration for the international designer John Galliano. Other designers whom he really looks up to are Alexander McQueen, Manish Arora, Tarun Wendell, Abu Sandeep, Rohit Bal, Jivalaya Sabya, and Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna. He finds their individual voice and authentic, trend-setting viewpoint to be very inspiring. His personal sense of style can be described as a mix of the eccentric rock grunge, showy disco colours yet something that brags a comfortable fit. He believes he is a maximalist with a bit of ‘extra’ in all of his looks, but he further clarifies how careful and economical he is with his purchases so that his every buy can be utilised in the best way possible. Another candid question of what place has he learnt the most about fashion from, he reveals that a lot of the major learnings of his career has come from people more than the place itself. They have taught him more than just the technicalities of fashion and one of the people whom he credits the most is one of his co-workers Malaika. He elaborates more on the workings of the fashion industry when a particularly insightful question about what needs to be changed I the fashion industry is asked. He majorly talked about trends, iterating that people need to stop following trends and instead, start creating them. There is an individual point of view that needs to be developed. One of the major inputs in the Indian fashion industry comes from wedding couture and a lot of designers have followed through with the same genre, limiting the Indian fashion industry to that specific genre mainly. He enunciates how he finds inspiration in people when asked the question of who or what inspires him the most. Most of his designs are for the characters on screen and hence, they also serve as the source of inspiration of him. He carefully understands the nuances of a character and works upon their wardrobe instead of creating a look that pleases his personal tastes. He further tells us about his favourite project till date which was one of the recent Bollywood films called ‘Sarvagunn Sampann’ that he has worked on. It was one of his best experiences as it gave him a lot of creative freedom and seamless support from the director and the producer of the film. There was a lot of trust involved in the process and he truly felt at home as he worked upon this exciting project. Perhaps this is what made it one of his favourite projects till date. With his undeniable talent and passion, Rick Roy enhances and illuminates the world of storytelling, infusing it with an enchanting visual tapestry that allows us to truly believe in the magic of the characters we encounter. His artistry and love for fashion is a true reminder of the profound impact costume has in shaping our perception and connection with the stories we all hold so dear. • Fast Times In Pune: Tracksuits, Dreams And A Dash Of Madness At Sports Con 2025

Fast Times In Pune: Tracksuits, Dreams And A Dash Of Madness At Sports Con 2025 LIFESTYLE Fast Times In Pune: Tracksuits, Dreams And A Dash Of Madness At Sports Con 2025 By Shrinivas Kodape 29 April 2025 Advertisement If you anticipated the typical display of corporate logos and rigid panels at SPORTS CON Pune 2025, you were pleasantly surprised. Held at the historic PYC Hindu Gymkhana , this wasn’t your average event. No one was here to hand out polished brochures or talk about things that sounded nice on paper. This was about action, urgency, and a whole lot of raw truth. The first speaker to step up wasn’t some celebrity, polished in a designer suit, but rather Dr. Vipul Lunawat, a man whose eyes had seen enough of India’s sports eco-system to make you question whether we were stuck in a time loop of broken promises. This wasn’t about hope or fluff; it was a hard dose of reality. His message: India’s sports system is crumbling. His words cut through the optimism like a knife, and you could feel the room brace for what was coming next. But Dr. Lunawat wasn’t alone. Madhukar Talwalkar, the fitness guru known for reshaping the health landscape in India, stood beside him. And then there was Dr. Pranati Tilak, calm and composed, like the steady anchor in a storm. These three weren’t there to dance around issues. They were there to tell it like it is—no sugarcoating, no fluff. And you could feel the room start to shift. Their message was clear: if India didn’t fix its sports Eco-system, it was game over for any Olympic dreams. The mood was set, but it didn’t stay calm for long. The next panel, “Decoding the League Culture,” went straight for the jugular. Kailash Kandpal, who made Puneri Paltan the juggernaut it is, didn’t come to chat about sponsorships or TV ratings. He was talking about survival—about making leagues that people actually cared about, not just following trends or chasing foreign dollars. For him, the sport was about something deeper, a bond with the community that’s hard to describe, but you know it when you see it. Then there was Mandar Tamhane, who lives and breathes football through his work with NorthEast United FC . His focus was on one simple, undeniable fact: if India didn’t start embracing football as its true sport, any hope for Olympic success was just that—a dream. A pretty, distant dream. He spoke with such passion you almost felt like the entire country should be shutting down for a football match. Next up was Parvin Dabas, an actor turned advocate for Pro Panja League , a form of arm wrestling that’s slowly making waves in India. His talk wasn’t just about strength; it was about a return to the basics of physicality. Forget the shiny new sports that come and go with trends—Panja wrestling is all about raw, gritty power. Dabas was adamant: it was time to bring back the sports that were built on real physical strength, not the tech-saturated world we’re drowning in. And then Rishi Bhansali, the founder of Pickleball , stepped up, and let’s just say it wasn’t your typical panel. Pickleball? Yes, it’s a thing. But Bhansali wasn’t just here to talk about paddle sports; he was here to talk about building communities around sports. His point was simple: clubs should be as important as schools, as temples, as landmarks. Sports should mean something to the neighborhoods they belong to. By the time the heavy hitters like Pawan Singh from Gun for Glory Academy, Lokesh Suji talking esports, and Rishikesh Joshi weighed in, the message couldn’t have been clearer: India needed more than just flashy banners or half-built stadiums. It needed a complete overhaul. Big changes, and fast. The status quo wasn’t working, and if India wanted to be a real contender on the world stage, the cracks in the foundation needed to be fixed yesterday. As the day wound down, you couldn’t help but feel like something had shifted. These weren’t just dreamers talking theory—they were doers, and they weren’t here to hold your hand. They were here to demand action. But if you weren’t paying attention, you might have missed it. The revolution in Indian sports had quietly begun, and while the path forward was unclear, the momentum was undeniable. So, what does all of this mean? Well, it’s simple: SPORTS CON Pune 2025 wasn’t just a day of panels. It was a wake-up call for a nation that had been dreaming too long and building too little. The people in that room were ready to fight for the kind of sports culture India deserves—not the flashy image, not the Insta-worthy moments, but the real stuff that comes from the grassroots up. No one promised it would be easy, but then again, whoever promised that revolutions were fun? India’s Olympic dreams might still be distant, but they don’t have to be impossible. It all starts with taking action—big, messy, necessary action. If you missed the revolution, don’t worry; there’s always next year. Or maybe, just maybe, there won’t be. • 10 Era-Defining Fashion Icons In Music

10 Era-Defining Fashion Icons In Music by Himanshi Sharma 10 Era-Defining Fashion Icons In Music 14 February 2023 FASHION Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Take a look at the most fashionable artists over the past three decades Most trends start on the edge of a guitar string of one famous musician that every single one of their fans want to be like. Here are some such influential icons in the music industry. The Ramones (70s) The Ramones were the first of many bands that originated the alternate genre of punk music. The musicians didn’t bother to dress the part, which at that period was full of pomp and glamour. They rather that they stuck to their frayed jeans, leather jackets and shaggy hair. Little did they know that they had begun the bad boy rockstar aesthetic. Elvis Presley (70s) The King of Rock ’n’ Roll wasn’t only know for his grooves. Elvis Presley was known for many things starting from his slick pompadour which many guys of that time strived to imitate to wearing eyeliner however it was his rhinestone studded pantsuits which were the epitome of fashion, courtesy of Bill Belew, that has influenced many styles that came about till date. Freddie Mercury and Queen (70s and 80s) The trail of flamboyance continued from Elvis’s time with the coming of the British band Queen and their main man, Freddie Mercury who brought about the prevalence of androgyny in fashion. Starting with bell bottoms and dark bobs, Mercury later went on to experiment more with fashion with more bright tight fitting bodysuits and over the top jackets. His signature moustache was only a welcome addition in his later years. Michael Jackson (70s to 90s) The ‘Thriller’ singer was the one to put fedoras, single handed gloves, studded jackets and many more on the map during the peak of 90s. Jackson acted true to his words as mentioned in his autobiography ‘Moonwalk’ “If fashion says it’s forbidden, I’m going to do it,” And he sure found a way to make it fabulous too. Madonna (80s and 90s) There wasn’t a time in 1900s when Pop Queen Madonna was not totally iconic. She cut the right balance between punk and gorgeous with her lacy corsets paired with messy jumbles of pearls and her frizzy blonde hair. One of her most notable looks comes from her song ‘Material Girl’, embodying Marilyn Monroe perfectly in her own quintessential manner. Spice Girls (late 90s) The Spice Girls represented the fashion trends that were going around in the late 90s. Geri’s Union Jack dress, Mel C original athleisure looks, Emma’s pigtails, Victoria’s black fits and Mel B’s animal prints all perfectly sum up the era and boomed into the early 2000s as well. Britney Spears (late 90s and 2000s) Britney dominated the fashion game in the 2000s. ‘Hit me Baby One More Time’ gave rise to tied up shirts and sports bras. Young pop stars nowadays still try to emulate Britney in any way possible. Really, no one could make a huge yellow Boa python around the neck stylish the way she did, though. Jennifer Lopez (2000s) Jennifer Lopez is still making fashion statements well into 2023 but if we can’t go without mentioning that one dress that made fashion history which is the famous green Versace dress she wore at Grammys which was so iconic it was revived back in 2020. Harry Styles (2010s) Harry Styles joins the ranks of Elvis and Freddie Mercury, having transcended the boundaries of fashion. Shedding his boy band days image, Styles had went on to create a style of his own, which went beyond all gender norms and stereotypes. BTS (2010s) BTS has changed the footnotes of fashion for a whole new generation, not just in one nation but all over the world. They have totally redefined the standards of masculinity, sending shockwaves across current trends. By Anushka Sharma By Anushka Sharma The Rise Of Korean Beauty Trends In India With Shruti Sharma 15 August 2024 BEAUTY Advertisement Advertisement In an engaging conversation, beauty influencer Shruti Sharma reveals her journey into the world of Korean beauty, sharing insights and experiences that have shaped her content creation path. With a vibrant social media presence, Shruti has become a go-to source for Korean beauty enthusiasts in India. Finding The Niche That Has Taken The World By A Storm Shruti’s passion for makeup began in childhood, but it was only a year ago that she discovered Korean beauty. She noticed a gap in the Indian market for Korean beauty content and decided to fill it. "I always wanted to do content creation but didn't know what niche to go for. When I saw the gap, I knew exactly what I wanted to do," she explains. The Differences Between Korean Beauty Vs Indian Beauty The difference between Korean and Indian beauty products is significant, according to Shruti . "Korean makeup packaging is very cute and girly, while Indian aesthetics are different. Lip tints and shades of pink are popular in Korea, whereas in India, matte lipsticks and nude colors are preferred," she notes. The popularity of cushion foundations in Korea also stands out, despite their limited shade range, which makes it hard for Indian users to find the perfect match. Collaborations And Inspirations Shruti’s collaborations with brands like Flower Knows and Amuse have further enhanced her content. These brands sent her their collections, which she showcases on her page. She is more inspired by K-beauty than K-pop, although she admires the makeup styles of idols like Won Young and Jennie. All About The Challenges And Aspirations Despite the popularity of Korean beauty products, accessibility remains an issue. Brands like Romand and Etude are available in India, but others require ordering through platforms like YesStyle, which involves customs fees and long delivery times. However, Shruti believes in the authenticity of YesStyle and continues to recommend it. Shruti's future plans include excelling in social media and venturing into modeling. "I've seen runway shows, and commercial modeling is also cool. Imagine if Flower Knows launches in India and I'm the brand ambassador—that would be so cool," she enthuses. Shruti Sharma’s dedication to Korean beauty and her ability to identify and fill gaps in the market have made her a significant figure in the Indian beauty industry. Her insights and experiences highlight the untapped potential for Korean beauty products in India, and her journey inspires others to explore and embrace new trends. As Korean beauty continues to gain popularity in India, influencers like Shruti Sharma play a crucial role in bridging the gap and introducing innovative products to a new audience. The future of beauty in India looks bright, with a blend of traditional preferences and modern, global influences.
